Next New Media

I think the next new media will involve some of the newer technologies that have not yet been integrated into the media scope. Augmented reality has already been incorporated into some new media applications and I think there will be a wave of augmented ingrained apps in the near future. The next new media I would love to see and also expect to see is a real estate app like StreetEasy or Zillow integrating augmented reality. This way, apartment shoppers could walk down the street and look through their phone and see prices and information on any given building or apartments displayed as if they were on the building itself. Also, augmented reality can be used to show what furniture would look like in the apartment by having a virtual piece of furniture displayed in the room through your phone. This would be a fun and interesting way to shop for apartments and have a better idea of what furniture could fit in it.

    This is a great idea. The infusion of AR and SM should gain broad acceptance among populations as busy as New York City and other major metropolis around the globe. It would provide a model good for business and users. Convenience will be its strongest selling point.

    Definitely! It will be good to have access to a better view on those buildings, apartments and streets. I remember how a friend of mine did not go to a house because she did not like what she saw on Zillow, the images they had there were not updated, but when I went everything was remodeled and beautiful nothing like the picture.

Blog v Wiki

Blogs and wiki's are two of the most popular and widely used forms of online content creation. They are similar, yet often times serve different purposes. Kathy E. Gill describes blogs as "participatory journalism" in her article "How can we measure the influence of the blogosphere?" This idea of blogs being a form of journalism is one of the major points of difference and is described in the article as, "Participatory journalism is a concept that embraces an expanded two-way communication between established media and readers, allowing readers to interact with journalists and news organizations."This two way interaction between the reader and the creator of the content is unique to blogging and creates a sense of community. Artificial Intelligence: Societal and Economic Implications Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has long been fantasized, discussed, and feared among society due to the potential it has to completely disrupt business and social life as we know it. AI can be thought of as any type of machine having the ability to demonstrate human like intelligence, meaning that the machine can learn, adapt, and change without any human interference. Examples of AI would be Tesla's self driving cars, online games in which humans play the computer, and advertisements you see online that are tailored specifically to your interests. I plan on examining the societal and economic implications AI has today, and what it will have in the future.
