Its a vlog about vlogging on Twitter! Twitter Vlog

Creative

New media fosters creativity in many ways. From people using social media to make themselves their own brand to new genres of music being created, new media has given creatives everywhere a platform. In the article,  The New Math of Mashups from The New Yorker Magazine, we see an example of a creative using new media to mix two seemingly unrelated songs into one that is fun to listen to and also very creative. Music has been radically changed with the arrival of new media, in fact there is even a brand new genre that was born from this technology called electric dance music (EDM). EDM has quickly taken over the youth and has created a multi billion dollar business for itself because of people who are creative enough to make music with nothing but their computers. Some of the best EDM artists record real life sounds and mix them in with electronic notes that creates some of the most unique songs anyone could ever imagine. Music is a huge industry that has been impacted heavy by new ...

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual worlds are increasingly becoming more attractive to people than our own real world. In fact, virtual reality now has a place in peoples homes for entertainment and in businesses for economic purposes. As a real estate agent in New York City, virtual world technology is something that I have kept a close eye on. Every month, another real estate company is adopting virtual technology to advertise their properties online and save their clients the trouble of having to physically go and see it. Why does this interest me? Because virtual reality technology that is used for this purpose can take jobs away like mine! However, virtual worlds are still in their early stage and in the article,  After Second Life, Can Virtual Worlds Get A Reboot  the author explains, " No one has been creative enough to think beyond what’s already out there. Some businesses got into virtual worlds early on, at the top of the hype cycle, and got disappointed and left. Virtual worlds  still ...

Social Networking Sites

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. These are the social networking sites I consider to be absolute powerhouses in the social media business and the ones I use frequently. Though they all connect people in one way or another, they do so in very different ways. Facebook was a pioneer for social networking and has changed a bit since it first started. It makes it easy to see what your friends and family are doing as the feed seems have they're posts readily available. It's nice because it includes posts, pictures, videos and live streaming so it kind of does everything in one place! It is infamous now for being where our grandparents are, and it is certainly true in my case! My grandparents use Facebook much more than I do, and I only use it to watch videos when I'm bored! Twitter seems to be one of the strongest social media sites, even the president uses it daily! It is very simple and straight forward which makes it attractive and easy to use. It is a place wher...

Blog Social Networking

Social media has been one of the most innovative and disruptive forms of media in the 21st century and has found its way into nearly every aspect of our lives. From business to leisure, social media has a definitive presence. Even in very professional and corporate work environments, social media is used for many reasons. In fact, there are even social media apps like linkedin that is designed for people to find companies and vice versa! In the article, "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" a recruiter from a global company is quoted saying, "Social networking technology is absolutely the best thing to happen to recruiting-ever." That is quite a statement! Social media is allowing massive amounts of information of individuals and companies alike to be readily available. This allows both parties to have a good understanding of the other before the first interview even begins and has created a more efficient and effective work environment. Though this ...

Blog v Wiki

Blogs and wiki's are two of the most popular and widely used forms of online content creation. They are similar, yet often times serve different purposes. Kathy E. Gill describes blogs as "participatory journalism" in her article "How can we measure the influence of the blogosphere?" This idea of blogs being a form of journalism is one of the major points of difference and is described in the article as, "Participatory journalism is a concept that embraces an expanded two-way communication between established media and readers, allowing readers to interact with journalists and news organizations."This two way interaction between the reader and the creator of the content is unique to blogging and creates a sense of community. Additionally, blogs tend to focus on a certain area or subject that carries a certain level of interest among readers. Wiki's are online platforms that can be edited and changed by multiple users. It is a place that is constant...

Collin Reed Project Description:

Artificial Intelligence: Societal and Economic Implications Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has long been fantasized, discussed, and feared among society due to the potential it has to completely disrupt business and social life as we know it. AI can be thought of as any type of machine having the ability to demonstrate human like intelligence, meaning that the machine can learn, adapt, and change without any human interference. Examples of AI would be Tesla's self driving cars, online games in which humans play the computer, and advertisements you see online that are tailored specifically to your interests. I plan on examining the societal and economic implications AI has today, and what it will have in the future. Furthermore, I will discuss not only the benefits of AI but also the dangers and and downfalls of it.
